Making your own jigs?

Featured Replies

I am really wanting to start tying my own jigs. I am not sure yet on if I want to pour my own jig heads yet, but I for sure want to do my own skirts. What do I need as far as just buying pre-made jig heads, and tying my own? Where can I buy all of it online?

Since you are just getting started, I recommend Jann's Netcraft.

You can buy small amounts of the rubber in the colors you want.  All you really need is some jig heads and some rubber.

You will need a way to attach the rubber (copper wire is great) to the jig.  A pair of scissors for cutting and some pliers to pull the wire tight and you are set to go.

How much ounces of skirt does it take to make one jig?

  • Super User

I use about 5 inches of rubber for one jig.  So if you bought a 10' piece of rubber it would make 2 dozen jigs.

not trying to hijack this thread...but do you have problems w/ the rubber material melting in your boxes?? i know older rubber skirts that came on some spinnerbaits melted pretty easily.
