Worm oil

Featured Replies

So, I bought gobs and gobs of finesse worms by the pound from a tackle place, and they were just sitting in boxes sorted by type and color. Now I have them separated into ziploc baggies, but they are in need of some worm oil to protect them. Just straight mineral oil ok? Or, is there a secret tacklemakers recipe out there? I saw the BR recommendation of garlic Pam, but I'm concerned about it turning rancid in the heat of the summer. I know mineral oil does not turn rancid like vegetable oils, which is why it's used on foodsafe surfaces like butcher blocks and such.

So, let's hear it! Thanks  :)

I'm not trying to sound like a know it all, but I have a geat book called Knowing Bass.  It goes over the different scents that people use for bass.  Some of them like garlic and anise did'nt help at all.  In fact some of them actually seemed to make the bass spit it out faster.  If you can find some sort of earthworm extract oil (if it exists) or something like minnow oil they would probably work the best.  I would also recommend buying the book it is awesome.  It breaks through the hogwash and just tests the stuff.

Well, I picked up a bottle of mineral oil (labeled as a laxative strangely enough), and didn't add any scent. 1/4 tsp was plenty to do each bag of 30 finesse worms. A little goes a loooong way, that's for sure. So now, I have to buy more worms! You know, to keep them from drying out in the store, yeah, that's it.  :)

At least you know now that your worms will be regular.  ;)
