Fishing Through Heavy Grass

Featured Replies

Hi

I am on a smaller inland lake 30 acres or so.It is 80 feet deep in the center lots of steep banks.

In the shallower areas we get heavy pond weed and suspended algae mats (chara)

I fish a lot of tube jigs and worms, we have fairly good production in the shallows but I am looking for suggestions for deeper water and possible better in the grass. The grass will get 8 feet tall or so before it detaches. getting hung up is a regular issue.

Thank you

Paul

braided line for one. if you texas rig worms, be sure to bury the hook tip back into the bait to keep snags at a minimum. grass jigs work really well since they have a weed guard and small bass don't bit them when they have big trailers.

For 30 acres that's really really deep unless it's right at a dam?? But my favorite deep application is vertical drop shot right under the transducer

Thanks for the help, it is 80 feet deep on the chart and I have marked it at 120 in spots.

I will give these a try and report back how they do .

Thank you

I would guess it is pretty clear water - if it is I would be heaving a frog in the grass and a spook over the deep open water - of course those may not be the highest percentage baits but if they work they will catch the big ones.

I run frogs and do hit some large fish on them, but they do not produce large numbers. The water is very clear I have been doing well with white and red colors mostly.

I will try the spooks I  the deep.

Thank you
