I know this is a bass website but I wasn't sure where else to ask...  So I am looking for a heavy rod atleast 7.5 ft in length under $100 for musky fishing.. I throw a variety of lures from big bulldawgs to smaller bucktails so a rod with a wide range would be preferred. I know this is a tight budget but it would be great if anyone had any suggestions. I am a tall guy so a rod with a longer handle would fit me better.

 

 Also if anyone has any tips for musky reels that would be appreciated.

Okuma makes some fine muskie rods for about $100. Take a look at their EVX Graphite Series.

Abu Garcia's C3 and C4 are classic muskie reels in the lower price range. The Shimano Corvalus is a good entry price reel, too.

Check out Rollie and Helen's Musky Shop or Thorne Brothers online. They are both premier muskie outfitters.

Muskie Hunter Magazine has a forum on their website as does Muskies First.

Its a different world than bass fishing. Have fun.

I have a telescoping Okuma EVX Graphite heavy rod rated for 1-8 ounces. It telescopes to 8'6" and is a pretty good all around rod. Retail is $119. I use it for large Bucktails, cranks, regular Bulldawgs and medium sized muskie plastics. For Pounders, etc, they have a telescoping 9'3" XH rod in the same series rated for 4-16 ounces.

Regarding reels, it is really tough to beat the Revo Toro reels for muskies.

Comartin, I fish Musky probably 10-12 times a year including a trip to Canada or Northern Minnesota and you can't go wrong with Gander Mountain rods for musky. I have 3 of them and they are great. There is better out there, but if you are like me and just like the challenge of musky a few times a year, the Gander Mtn. rods are the way to go.

I have 8 ft heavy gander mountain musky rod and I like it. I think I paid around 80 bucks can't remember for sure but I know it was less than 100. I might upgrade if I start catching more lol but for now it's a good rod. They have 1 year replacement warranty.

I have 2 of the BPS Graphite Series Musky rods.  Both 7'6", both $60 each.  Both work well for me fishing large swimbaits in the 3-12oz range without any issues.  The H is rated 4-10oz's and the XH I believe is a 4-16oz.  I know I purchased it to throw the Matt Lures full sized 13" Dead Twitch which weighs in at 15oz.

Cabela's has their Fish Eagle 50 casting rods in the bargain bin for $45 in a 7'6" XH and a 7' H.  I have the 7ft. heavy and use it for bucktails and Jakes.The also have their Tourney Trail Musky casting rods for $56. My partner has the 7'6' heavy and it's a little stiffer in the tip, but handles some of the bigger baits better. but for the 1oz and under you really have to work at casting out any distance with it.

If you can spend a hair more, the St. Croix Musky Mojo rods are a nice option at about $150. 

Thanks to everyone. I'm looking at a gander mountain series rod since I know I can get a discount because I know someone who works there. Anyone tried the bull dawg predator series rods? Same price as the gander mountain musky.

I'd gander mtn rods, if you want to spend money, go with SC Premier. As far as reels no experience outside Abu's Toro, which rocks.
