Lightest rod blanks

Featured Replies

If I wanted to make a lightweight rod for jiggin' and wormin', who makes the lightest weight blanks on the market?

Is it possible to make a rod which weighs less than a Kistler LTX Helium II?

Yes you can make a lighter rod than the Kistler. It's not just about the blank. It is the whole package. You need the lightest of every component that you put on a rod.

I bet if you use the Batson RX8 blank coupled with the same components Kistler uses...your rod will weigh the same.  Just a hypothesis... ;)

Micro TiSiC s are lighter than Recoils, by the way.  With a 2.6oz blank, I figure you could build a rod that weighs ~3.5oz or so.  Blank weight is heavily dependant on length.

Micro Tisic guides are just regular guides that are very small.  Most factory rods use a size 6mm guide torwards the tip.  Micro guides go much smaller, you can go as small as 2.5mm.  This will greatly reduce the weight torwards the tip especially.

To answer your question Yes you can build a rod that is lighter and better than a Kistler.  I would start by looking at the Batson Rx8 and Rx8+ blanks.  Also try looking into CTS blanks.  I have a drop shot blank from CTS and it is by far one of the most impressive blanks I have ever felt.

I have A buddy who works with carbon fiber. Something new might be in the works. But it is just in the infancy stage . Carbon fiber doesn't like to bend and that is what he is trying to work out!

Imagine that carbon fiber blend with recoil guides and a superlight reel seat with split grips and a REVO.
