  1. I dont know your area of the country but when the water temp gets to the low 60's here some years they suspend and are tough to catch. Other years they dont and then I crush them. I was catching 20 smallies a day over 3 lbs in early to mid September then the action tappered off to only catching 4 last Saturday between two of us. Now I'll fish for largemouth until the water gets to 50. ;D
  2. Great Fish!!!!
  3. Great Fish!!!
  4. Those are the 2 jig rods that I am using right now. Light and ultra sensitive with some serious power especially in the CUCX72MH. That rod is and absolute animal!!!!
  5. Use the briad to a Fluro leader and then you have the best of both worlds.
  6. I have and love both versions of the Citica, but the E is a far better reel than then D.
  7. There wont be any more get together at GS. The town posted a sign saying 2 car Max parking at LS.
  8. I have heard that currently Browing/Mitchell are making the BPS rods.
  9. I use them as jig trailers on Football jigs. If I were to use them on a jig head I would throw it on a 1/8-1/2 OZ Football head depending on depth.
  10. I'd like to see the Curado 201E come in a 6 and also a 5 gear ratio. The 7 is a bit much for some applications.
  11. I have this reel on one of my cranking rods and the thing is awesome. I am looking for another one for cheap on ebay as well. The Curado D is one of the best casting reels that I have ever used, right on par with the Chronarch. IMO
  12. You dont need a leader in stained or slightly clear. I dont think you would need it in even ultra clear with the Hybrid.
  13. I just bought a Doybns 704CB rod for throwing Jerkbaits and Crankbaits. I am really impressed with the quality of this rod. I can see myself buying a few more in the near future. ;D
  14. A fast hookset is very important when fishing the jig. I dont know what kind of water you are fishing but a 12 lb leader seems vey light to me especially if you are fishing wood or brush. When I use the braid to Fluro set up, I am almost always using a 17 lb leader and never go below 14. Above all else, just stick with it. With a little practice you will be lipping those things left and right.
  15. I just got a Dobyns 704CB rod mainly for jerkbaits and deep diving jerkbaits. I also plan to use this rod for crankbaits and some topwaters in a pinch. I like the 7' rod for jerkbaits mainly for the extra casting distance and since I work the bait out to the side instead of straight down the length is not an issue for me. Depending on how you work your jerkbaits & topwater baits you may only need that one 7' rod, but hey the more rods you have the better off you are. Because as we all know you can never have too many rods.
  16. You can probably still find a Curado D 201 with a 5:1.1 gear ratio on Ebay for a fair price. I picked one up brand new a few months ago for about $120.
  17. Works great for Buzzbaits.
  18. Or add on. Most of my reels have way too much line capacity. I always like to start with a full spool. So, replacing 80 yards or so is the ticket for me, the rest is just backing whether it's fresh or not. It is highly unlikely I will ever get to the backing on an outing, I would switch rigs long before that happens. 8-) x2
  19. I agree with ***. They both have thier time and place. Never tried the feathered hook on the Jr. I'll give that a go this year.
  20. $65 for a stradic is insane. I would buy 10 at that price and I dont even need any right now.
  21. When I buy a new Shimano reel I know I wont need to buy another one to replace it ever. They are by far the best reels out there!!!!
  22. I use the XML 6'6" M casting as one of my jerkbait/small topwater rods and the thing is awesome. I am tempted to buy another one as a backup rod just in case I break one. The only thing I dont like about these rods is that the handle is kind of short at least on the models that I have.
  23. I have always used mono for topwater, however this year I am going to try out Yo-zuri hybrid.
  24. They sure do work. This was the first jerkbait that I had really good success with. I have not used then in years though, IMO there are far better jerkbaits on the market now. The main problem with the husky jerkbait is that they do not cast well at all on a baitcaster. Even on a spinning rod you wont get the distance you will get with a pointer.
