  1. Nice fish!! That rain was something Saturday. I was in a 11' Jon boat and spent a good amount of time bailing it out in the afternoon. Have you ever used those big Spro Rainbow Trout swimbaits.? I bought one last year but never really threw it much.
  2. Nice Fish. Topwater Smallmouth are one of the best bites there is.
  3. I know the cape pretty well. I fish there all the time, probably fish the lake you have in the picture but I did not recognize the background. I do believe that there are some 7's and maybe a few 8's in a few of those ponds.
  4. I echo all the responses above. A Smallmouth fight puts a largemouth fight to shame.
  5. Nice Fish. Gotta Love those Cape Smallies
  6. Nice Fish. Somewhere in the 5 Ib range sounds about right.
  7. Green Pumpkin In the Spring Watermelon Seed / Watermelon w/ Red Fleck in Summer Light Watermelon Seed in early Fall & back to Green Pumpkin in Late Fall I will adjust the color also by the type/ color of the weeds in the lake or the color of the rocks if t here are any. But almost always colors are in the green & brown family. When the Bite is off I will use Chartruese with Blue Fleck. I call it radiation color.
  8. Great shows Mike. That drop shot bite is tough to figure out for lots of really good fisherman, but its worth getting schooled a few times to learn it. Love the show by the way. Always very entertaining, and its nice to see many of our waters in the Northeast and especially some of the smaller secret "lake x's" on there. Keep up the good work.
  9. I was thinking no bigger than 3 when I saw the picture. It is a really good picture though. Makes the fish look huge to anyone who is not an avid fisherman.
  10. 15-20 smallmouth all between 2 pounds and 3 1/2 pounds mostly on topwater but some also on drop shot. Then mid day I got 10-15 largemouth all about 3 pounds on drop shots in the middle of the lake in 28 feet of water where I usaully catch good smallmouth. Then finished the day with 2 4 pound largemouths on topwater on consecutive casts. Only bad thing that happened was on my last cast I lost my favorite Spook on a pickeral. Cut 17 Ib mono like it was 2 Ib. The best day I have had on the Cape in a while.
  11. I agree with Tin, its just been a messed up year from the get go. Last August was a great month of fishing this August one of the worst months I can remember. I did have an Epic day on Saturday, the first really epic day since June.
  12. My standard Texas rigged worm is a 10" Powerworm. They work just fine in the northeast. You might catch a few more small fish if you use 7" worms but that big Largemouth isn't going to turn down a bigger worm for a smaller one most days.
  13. Unfortunately the Northern Snakehead has no problem surviving a New England winter. They also have no problem spawning several times per year in our waters. They will eat any and all fish they can fit in their rather large mouths. These are just a few reasons why they are such a serious threat.
  14. Snakeheads pose a very real and serious threat to our fisheries. Please call your fisheries biologist and let them know exactly where your friend caught that fish.
  15. Can't go wrong with the drop shot this time of year. If that doesnt work for some reason try a grub or tube.
  16. Micro Tisic guides are just regular guides that are very small. Most factory rods use a size 6mm guide torwards the tip. Micro guides go much smaller, you can go as small as 2.5mm. This will greatly reduce the weight torwards the tip especially. To answer your question Yes you can build a rod that is lighter and better than a Kistler. I would start by looking at the Batson Rx8 and Rx8+ blanks. Also try looking into CTS blanks. I have a drop shot blank from CTS and it is by far one of the most impressive blanks I have ever felt.
  17. I have noticed that the fish seem to be spread out a lot more this year then they were last year. I am mainly talking smallmouths though. I got a nice 5 Ib 11 OZ largemouth Sunday in a great smallmouth pond, but couldnt catch a smallmouth to save my life. The fishing has been a bit strange lately.
  18. 5 IB 2 OZ on a Silver Buddy Last December. From one of the secret ponds on Cape Cod. lol
