What Is This?

Featured Replies

My grandfather recently passed away in FL. My parents are down there now cleaning his house out. He caught this fish years ago in FL. They are not sure where he caught it. What is this fish? They are bringing it here to NC for me to put in my fishing garage. Thanks!

Weird looking mount!

What's probably the weird part is that his mouth looks like it's doing a huge burp lol

What's weird about it?

I don't think it's weird, a bit unnatural in positioning, but that's likely intentional due to the wall area he had it hanging from.. Most taxi guys can manipulate big game mounts & fish mounts within reason.

What's weird about it?

It is just that I've seen a lot of Barries and none looked like that!

There are quite a few barracuda species, IMO the mount does not look like a great barracuda native to Florida waters.  Can't say exactly what is, it does look similar to a yellow stripe barracuda but those are found in the Indian ocean..................I looked it up, lol.

My grandfather was in the Navy and loved to travel. Who knows where he caught that thing. In his 91 years he has traveled everywhere there is water lol.

Is it a skin mount?

Maybe its a saltwater musky. Whatever specie it looks like a fun predator to angle for.
