My question is, will a newer line guide pawl work on this older reel. They apear the same. I plan on upgrading this reel to 4 bearings essentially making it a curado. The reel is super nice and I want to fix it up.

I'd be careful. If the pawl isn't a correct match it will chew up the wo gear. I always change them as a set. It's likely that if one is damaged it had an impact on the other. Have you called Shimano for the part or an equivalent?
