Do yourself a favor and spend the $10 extra and get the HMG. It's a much nicer rod. I own both and if I could, I would return my HMX and get another HMG.

I have that exact rod for walleye fishing. Its a nice rod even if it is a bit tip heavy.

I agree with fishballer06, spend an extra 10.00 and get the HMG.

I had that rod. Thing is a broomstick and very heavy. I returned it. It fishes like a med to mh xf.

Would not recommend it at all.

I have both the hmg (its a bit older one made in USA) and the hmx I just bought this winter. My HMG is a much softer but the HMx is a nice rod I prefer the grip of the hmx. Both good rods I took the hmx out this week and caught my first bass of the year on it actually here in ohio.

Are they not made in the USA any more? I have a M/H HMG spinning that's the last model I think and it's made in the USA. It's great for fishing little frogs or light plastics in grass.

I don't think any fenwicks are made in usa now . I know g loomis and some st croix are made here not sure about any others.

They are no longer made in the U.S. and as others have said, unless you get a very good price on the HMX, $10.00 more gets you an HMG which is head and shoulders better than the HMX.

Wow.  Opinions are varying all over the place.  I've never felt an HMX, but have a couple older HMGs.  I like them.  I've been told the new model HMG is a very nice rod at its price point.  Lighter than the old model.  Well built.  I'd probably already have a new model, but hate paying full price.  Hard to find these on sale.  That may say something about their popularity.  I know a salesman at Dick's told me a certain line of rods (not the HMG cuz they don't carry them) never went on sale because they sold well at full price.  Could be the same reason I can't find the HMG on sale.

From all I've read, I would have to agree that spending the extra $10 is probably well worth it.  I own something like 6 different models of Fenwick rods.  I feel Fenwick gives you a lot for your money, and consider them all excellent values.
