Hi everyone. I have a Promariner-Pro sport 12 battery charger. Sold the boat it was in. When i took it out, it sounds like its full of loose sand? It didnt do this when i put it in two years ago. My question is--is this normal? It still works just dont understand the sand noise.

That doesn't sound good. Should not be anything moving around inside.

I will also say, I have fallen out with ProMariner. For years, that's all I ran, then they started having them built in China. All three of the Chinese built, ProTourney 300's I've had have failed too soon, and when I sent them back for repair, they've told me they were non repairable, all they could do is allow me a small credit toward the purchase of a new one, the last one was only four years old. That's over $100 per year just to charge the batteries. I just told them they could just keep that one, I would not be using any more of their chargers.

When I was looking for an on-board charger to put in my new Tracker Pro 170 last summer, I found many reviews telling of early failures of different brands of chargers.  I decided it wasn't too much trouble at all to just open the door on my battery compartment when I got home and use one of the chargers I already had.  

 

I have a small charger/maintainer that will gently charge my trolling motor battery by the next morning.  And besides the apparent reliability issues, most of the on-board units I looked at charged with more amperage than I would prefer to use.

I agree a trickle charger will work for single battery apps but 24 36 need more amps especially for overnite tourneys when you want a faster charge. Junebugmn

There shouldn't be anything moving around inside it. It might still work for now, but I wouldn't bank on it working for a whole lot longer.
