Alligator Alley 4/4/15

Saturday 4/4/15, Alligator Alley MM39 North Side, Temp 82*, wind SW 10, Partly cloudy, water temp 81*, light stain, water levels are above normal for this time of year, little boat traffic.

I went out this morning at first light, solo.  Being Easter weekend it was hard to get anyone to go.  When I first got to the ramp the full moon was in a partial eclipse.  The moon set before going total eclipse.

I ran to the dead end and started fishing back toward the ramps.  Since I was alone, and able to fish tight to the bank,  I spent some time flipping a jig in the pads, and throwing a small shaky head jig.  The small jig did well, but the big flipping jig zeroed.  I looked for active beds, and saw none.

I went to the stick-o and caught fish at a stead pace until the sun got high.  Things got considerable tougher after 10:00.  The only bites I could get were finesse bites, on a Texas rigged zoom centipede, at the base of the drop off.

It was not an easy day, but I did manage to catch 27 bass, the largest 2,5 lbs.  Although I'm still waiting for the water levels to drop, the Glades are still a fun place to fish.  :eyebrows:

sounds like a great day to me! I'm still waiting for my first bass this year

Nice report Geo!! I went out there this a.m, put in at mm 40.7. Starting at the furthest bridge west,  then fished west on both sides of the alley, towards the no trespassing buoys. Caught 1 flipping, 1 on a 10 inch worm weightless, couple on a devils horse and a boat load on a suspending jerkbait. majority were 1's and 2's. Winds were east 10-15 but it wasn't hot. Fished from sun up til bout 2:30. caught about the same as you. Funny I brought a friend and he only caught a couple, literally. I gave him the exact same jerkbait I was throwing but he couldn't get the technique down to get them fired up, lmao..

Sounds like a great day.  I keep waiting for the water to drop a little more, and the fishing frenzy to start.  Thanks for the report.

Spent some time out of Holiday up north by the alley this weekend myself. Took the kids out with me so they could do some shiner fishing. Plenty of fish around, all seem to be in the 1-3 pound range. Still waiting on the bigger fish to start chewing once the water drops.
