Featured Replies

wondering what length and action everyone uses.  I bought a 7 foor m fast veritas winch and it almost feels too light.  with fluoro 10 pound test i can barely feel the lure running

I prefer a 6'8" MH for squarebills. Of course I use mono and have my drag set to where it works well.

Dobyns 705cb graphite

Shimano Calcutta 51 TE

30# Power Pro

I throw square bills on a 7'mh glass rod and smaller squares on a 7' duckett m micro magic. Both with 10 lb pline cxx. I can fell the bait well on both. a braid does make everything easier to feel if you are haveing trouble

I have 2 rods for those and it depends on where  I'm throwing them. If I'm on the river or I'm fishing an open water area with no cover or vegetation then I'm using my 6'6" ML-M finesse cranking rod, if I'm fishing cover or rip rap then I'm using a 7'2" M-MF that is rated 3/8oz to 1oz, it is a medium but with the MF action it is a little more stiff and is great for lipless and square bills in rock or cover.
