Anybody know anything about this blank? I plan on building a big bait rod some time in the near future. How does it compare to other swimbait rods Loomis has made?

Hi Piggin, What do you want to know about it? Please either ask here or you can call into our office.

Just wondering how true it is to its lure rating. I'll pretty much just be throwing 8" hudds and spro rats on it. Will probably end up throwing some more stuff, but the hudd is about as heavy as I can think of right now.

Gary hasn't been involved with Gloomis for some time now. His current offerings may be nothing like what GL has put out since. There are a lot of good swimbait blanks out there. I'd judge each on it's own merits as it's so hard to compare without actually fishing each.

Did he make any swimbait rods before he sold out to Shimano in 97? Either way, I just wanted something I could possibly research and compare it to. I'd hate to spend that kind of money and do all that work for a rod that can't handle all the baits I want it to.

Each builder has their favorite blanks and brands. I've built on numerous different brands and have yet to come across one that was grossly mislabeled. For reassureance, posts like this looking for other's experience sure doesn't hurt. I replied to what I think was your post on rodbuilding.org regarding guide sizes. If you want more opinions on blanks you can ask that there as well. I've built a few MHX swimbait rods and the guys loved them. Even if you found old swimbait rods specs I doubt and would hope that things have evolved since '97. From what I've seen, the NFC blanks are quality, but not head and shoulders above the compettition like they were when graphite was an innovation.

Hi Jiggin'

The SWB808 is a good stick. It will be hard fitting components since the butt is larger diameter. The SW807 could work too. Another model that might be up your alley is the BB809. It has the same characteristics but slimmer diameter.

I didn't see any mhx swimbait rods on mudhole, at least not in their high modulous. Where do you order them from?

I have found that big bait rods can be pretty far off on the upper end of the lure rating. Also NFC has a lot of rods out whack on their ratings. If you check out their spec sheet, you'll see what I mean, lots of inconsistencies.

Nevermind. I found them. Must have missed them.

Jiggin' We have numerous brands and models to choose from both NFC and RainShadow. Would you like us to suggest a few other models of rod blanks?

Sure. I'm open to suggestions.

There's mo real need for a true hi modulus blank in such a heavy Rod for moving baits. There are nice blanks among the rain shadow line.

Basically we have a variety of different options from NFC to RainShadow. I would look at the lineup then come back and ask questions. Just depends on how much you want to spend and what your looking for.
