Red Spinnerbaits

Featured Replies

So I went out and bought a red spinner bait w/ red and gold blades this weekend. Its a 1/2oz Strike King Banshee. Just wondering when the best time to use it? I heard there are certain seasons when it works better than others, but have heard conflicting answers on that topic. What do you think?

When fishing.

Sorry....But, seriously.  Throw it out there.   If you think they want a spinnerbait and they don't bite it, try a different color.  If they still don't bite, throw something else.  I've caught bass on spinnerbaits that are largely red, but I've never once thought about restricting their use to a specific season.

Just meant it like red cranks. Sometimes they work better at different times of the year.

Sorry to be a smart-ass.....there's a lot of threads on colors and some of them are interesting, even....but there is nothing definitive, whatsoever as to what bass see, not to mention what colors they might want to eat at different times....

If you're intent on matching the hatch, I suppose you might want to try red cranks after the crawfish molt....spring by you, maybe?  But, I can't think of anything that a spinnerbait is trying to mimic other than a fish or school of fish.....and I've not seen any red fish in my local waters.....but the red spinnerbait catches bass....

so what season would you choose NOT to throw your red crank baits?

I have never tried an all red spinnerbait, but red and white has been a good color. I would think the all red would work well in the spring when red cranks seem to work best. I would also throw it on any cloudy days or low light situations. Let us know how you do with it. Heck it may work anytime. Good Luck!
