Reel Seat Problems

Featured Replies

Ok so I have a PQ that I want to pair with a 6'6'' medium action rod.  It's an older guide series rod.  I love the feel of both the rod and the reel paired together, but I am having a problem getting the reel to stay tight in the seat.  (Fuji graphite seat FYI).  After I get it as tight as I can by hand I can kinda force the reel forward and it pops out pretty easily.  Like if a fish pulled hard I think it would pop out...

What can I do to get it tight?

Thanks.

Put some tape around the feet of the reel, and see if that gives you some better grip.

Sounds like the seat is too long for the reel foot. This happens from time to time as there is no uniformity in either part. I'd push the reel into the rear hood and put a tight wrap of electrical tape around the front foot then tighten the hood as best I can

So nothing on the bottom.  Should I wrap tape all the way around the "circumference" of the top or just on the back part of it?

Make some shims, get some plastic from a coffee can or can of Pringles and create something

I like this.  Definitely will give it a try

Shims work for a thin foot but I think you have another problem. I'd wrap all the way around the front foot taping it to the reel seat then tighten the hood. You can also shim it a little, tighten the hood and tape over both reel feet. The best you'll get is a work around. Just paly with it a little and secure it until you feel comfortable with using it.
