Alright guys, I wanna hear from some Hoosier bass fisherman here. I have a friend who happens to live near an old flooded gravel pit with some super clean clear water. Limited shallow cover, lots of deep water with weeds and rocks. I have caught several largemouth from here that have been up to 5 pounds. In the past I have had limited success and never really been able to figure it out and catch bass consistently.

Typically my confidence baits are jigs, squarebills and texas rigged soft plastic creature baits. All of these have caught "some" fish here but I would love some tips for very clear water. What do you guys have success with on clear, deep bodies of water?

Wacky rigged Senkos or drop shots maybe.

I agree with what Dyerbassman said. I fish a lot of clear strip mine pits and the best thing that works consistently for me is a 4" wacky rigged watermelon yum dinger. I also like using the dropshot, weightless zoom finesse and trick worms and black & blue jigs. Can you fish this lake at night ? Fishing clear water at night will increase your odds of catching the bigger bass.

I think that a wacky rig may be to slow in a deep body of water if you are impatient, but a drop shot would definitely be a good option. Figure out where the fish are in the water column some how.. (The million dollar question) Then suspend that bait at the same level and drag it across the bottom. I'm thinking that would be the ticket. A Ned Rig may also work... I've never used it, but I plan on trying it out on a local clear stretch of creek here soon... But I don't know how it would fish in deeper water.

I recently started using a shakey head rig with zman worms and man, the bass love those! Gonna be trying the ned rig soon, too.
