I'll be spending time up in the Southeast Region this summer, is there any good freshwater spots from say Biddeford/Saco down to say York out  and west towards Sanford? I'll be yak'n.

Thanks John

Lots of good lakes up there...the androscoggin river is a good smally water

china, darimiscotta, and the rangley lakes are very very good...although not quite downeast proper

Also striper will be up there in the coming months...what month ya goin?

Go to Maine Dept of fisheries web site and they list almost all of their lakes by county, a lot of gd water in that area, Mousam, Great East, Auburn, Moose, are just a few.

To be honest with ya, look on a Maine Gazetteer, find water, fish it, catch smallies. repeat.

  Lake Arrowhead

  Lake Arrowhead

Be very careful if you do Arrowhead, make sure you have a GPS and know how to use it, so many coves and inlets very easy to get lost. I fished it with a friend last yr and did well, but at the end of the day he looked at me and asked"which way is out", I pointed to a direction, he chuckled and went totally in a different direction.

You have a lot of options. If you don't want to go too far Arrowhead, Square, and Balch Ponds all have good bass fishing. If you wanted to get a bit more adventurous and drive further western Maine and the Belgrade Lakes offer some of the best fishing on the east coast in my opinion.  I would tend to stay away from the bigger waters with your kayak. All the local rivers, ponds and lakes have bass. I am sure that some of the harder to reach places that are only accessible by kayak have some pretty big bass.

Estes Lake in Sanford has many fishing opportunities from shore, or a canoe/small boat. Ive been fishing their because my boat motor died, last 2 trips i've caught 8 fish at 3lbs or over. Not amazing, but not horrible either.

Looks like I'll be catching a break from Little League season and will be heading up. I doubt I'll have the yak with me though, I have to load my truck up with tools and material for a small job, but I think I'll give this lake a whirl from shore.

Thanks a million Mainely.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread but I plan to travel up to Sanford 10/1-10/6.  Estes lake, kennebunk pond and even a trip up to Balch pond is on my list.  Anyone else have any recommendations?

Hey Andrew and welcome to Bass Resource. Unfortunately I was unable to make my way up this year due to work schedules, but we have a bunch great anglers here who have been a tremendous help to me over the years.

Grab yourself a chair and enjoy your time here.
