Berkley Gulp and Power bait

Featured Replies

Ok, as my screen name implies I am mostlly fish inshore saltwater but I am going to give Bass fishing another shot this spring and fall. I was wondring if anyone has tried Berkley Gulp worms or the power bait worms. I know that the Gulp is popular in the saltwater environment, but I was just wondering how it stacked up in the freshwater world. Also is it better than Berkley Powerbait line of worms.

Any advice would be greatly aprreciated, also if anyone has another brand that they like feel free to include it as well.

Thanks,

Tony

Never did too well with the gulp freshwater series, but I hear some good things about it once in awhile. For berkley I do best with the 7inch and 4inch powerworms.

i dont like them because they dont have many color to choose from and once there in the water and get wet they start to shrink up and you gotta throw them away and they cost to much for that my personaly favorite is zoom because they are really soft and dont cost as much and have alot of types and color to choose from

I think you're talking about Gulp, right?  I don't have any experience with those.  But Powerbait worms are great.  I am convinced that the scent helps the fish hold on just a bit longer.

Powerbait 7" worms are the best plastic worm bait on the market IMHO. They come in a whole slewth of colors and simply catch alot of fish. Put the 7" or 10" on a 1/4 or 3/8oz jighead and fish it slow. The bass will hold on for a long time giving you much, much better hooksets than other worms.

Powerbait is a must-have :)

Thanks for the input guys, I will definatley try the powerbait worms, I was sure about the Gupl. I know it is real popular around here with the saltwater guys, alot of charter captains use the Gulp shrimp when they are not fishing with live bait. They are very deadly on Redfish and Speckled Trout.  One more qustoin is there a particular color thaat you like. I am thinking of maybe something like a pumkin seed or purlple with the orangish red tail.

Thanks again.

get some Gulp 5in "sinking minnows" in green pumkin....rig.em wacky style.w/ a gammy finesse hook..great for pitching docs ...at least for me.....one of my go-to baits....the gulp does smell to high hell and will dry-out if you dont keep it in the water...I usually just putem back in the bag...or leave it hang over the side in the water when using a diff rod.....

Powerbait worms, both 7" and 10" and craws and tubes are in the "don't leave home without them" category. I've caught a lot of fish with these baits.

Gulp is a different story, for me. I find Gulp baits to be too stiff, with little or no action. I've had no success with Gulp baits.

Cheers,

GK

I am definitely a big fan of Berkley Power baits.  I really like the 7 and 10" worms, the beast, and the creature baits.  I use the craws for jig trailers.  Berkley is quickly taking over tackle bag with the exception of Ikas, Berkley gets used more than any other soft plastic.

I have to agree with most everyone else's assessment of Gulp though, not a big fan of it.

Ive used both... keys on the GULPS..

- cast about 50 times then replace.... when your done fishing make sure you remove from hook (you dont want the problem after)

-plug your nose because they reeeeeeeeeeek something awful ... like a rotten well you get the picture :)...

Now dont get me wrong i have caught many bass of the gulps but i would choose the power worm over the gulp any day.

As for the power worms by Berkley i love them ... im a motor oil guy and just purchased 5 100 ct bags for this fishing season.  Im sure ill run out too ;)  I prefer the 7'' over the rest but do occasionally use the 10'' worms also.

Good luck and Tight Lines

Here I get busy at work and stay off the board for awhile and when I return the GULP! debate still rages on ;D  I am a die hard GULP! fan, but they do have a down side -- mostly cost.  I like to use 'em to locate fish (like in brush piles or around docks) but after I catch a couple I always switch to a ZOOM worm or a Power Bait Worm.  The exception is the Sinking Minnow in the Spring - here I use the GULP! to find the fish and then switch to Senko style baits.

I have been using the power bait worms for years as well as the grubs and I am a believer I got a freebee bag of gulp lizards that I am going to try but dont have any experience with that product I do know they stink.

Thanks for the replies. I wasn't sure how the Gulp baits stacked up with the powerbaits. Like I said the Gulp Saltwater Shrimp are very popular here. Kind of expensive, I mean you can almost buy a pound of fresh shrimp and rig them in the same fashion on a jig. I will deifinaltely buy me a pack of powerbaits and give them a try, hopefully this weekend. I do not know, Saturday looks iffy, Sunday is definately looking good weatherwise.

Thanks,

Tony

Powerbait and GULP! are both an amazing line of baits!

Gulp works but i really dont care for the type of texture it is, gets real unsoft and breaks apart.

But bottom line, great products, been catching trophy fish for many years.
