Fishing A Murky Man Made Reservoir

Featured Replies

I have a jon boat with small outboard and electric motor permanently housed on Lake Sinclair in Georgia.

It's a man-made large body of water, kept rather murky because the level is adjusted up and down frequently.

I'm having trouble catching bass here, (but they have tournaments once in a while, so I know they are in there.)

I have always fished in clear or nearly clear water that had cover or interesting bottom elevations and drops. This lake is basically very wide with irregular arms, and for the most part just goes from shallow to deep (80+ ft) without any of the humps, ledges or drop offs that I'd like to fish. The shore line is mostly developed and I see fishermen working the docks a lot. Is that my answer? I'm planning on using more buzz baits and spinner baits due to the poor water visibility. Any tips on fishing this kind of water would be welcome.

With murky water you generally want to increase your lure's ability to be seen and noticed. Whether that be with size, vibration, color or whatever it may be. Don'tlet murky water deter you from jigs, soft plastics and other baits of that nature. You don't necessarily have to make the commotion of a buzz or spinner to catch fish. Go with dark colors. Begin by finding structure and go from there.
