  1. Went out yesterday for a few hours. Only a dink that exploded on a worm next to the boat. For a while had them located but my previous spots aren't producing. Guess I'll shoot for deeper.
  2. Yeah just saying I've been finding the there too.
  3. They're moving deeper...Find protruding or submerged structure in 5-12 feet.
  4. How did you rig it?
  5. Actually went out for a couple hours, just got home. Caught 5 fish in my 2 hrs out. Find submerged structure in 5-12 ft of water and see what you can do with plastics. Wacky rigged was working excellent. Just be patient and give it some time to sink. Let us know how you do and of you have any specific questions Shoot away.
  6. Good luck! The res produces some quality bass if you can figure out a pattern. I'd recommend fishing plastics in the grass and heavy cover. Jigs also work well, focus on darker black/blue/greenpumpkin colors for both. Where are you launching?
  7. Great advise so far! The only real current occurs after a storm rolls in but I saw the rip rap covered with small baitfish. Promising to say the least and I'll really fish it hard and thoroughly next week. Maybe go with a deep diving crank or a texas rig. How about a very wide bridge with no concrete pilings. So the entirety of the water below is shaded. I was thinking in mid summer when the temps are very high it could hold bass looking for cooler, shaded water?
  8. When fishing bridges with large concrete pilings and rip rap shores what is your approach? The bridge I have the easiest access too is in about 15 ft of water with both sun and ample shade underneath. I feel like many people on my reservoir ignore the bridges and would like to know how often you guys fish them, with what success, and with what approach. Thanks!
  9. Any tips on targeting smallies in the resevoir?
  10. Occoquan is definetly a very scenic fish. I've also seen deer cross the back streems and get chased by bucks. I've also managed to see a lot bald eagles both flying and perched in trees. Blue heron and everywhere and the occasional hawk will swoope in from above. The beavers are everywhere and they love slapping their tales when you're close.
  11. So the other day I found this guy a float on the res and he's quite big! Never fished for crappie before and now I'm really interested in getting out and giving it a try. Anyone ever caught crappie in the Occcoquan? Any tips or advise. Going in blind at this point.
  12. Was in the same position and today I pulled a 3, 5 and 6lber out of the pond I fish when I don't have time to deal with a boat. For the longest time I would fish heavily and only occasional reel in the larger bass. However, catching the small sub 2lbers that probably averaged around a pound wasn't hard at all. So, for a while I commenced to throwing everything I had at em' with no luck. This evening, after a long day, I decided to catch the last 30 minutes of light and boy did that pay off. I think I've found that the larger bass are just more active in the late, late evening and I'd suspect the early morning as well. So my advise would be to fish the dusk until dark (and even into the night) and see what you can do. For those last few minutes of light switch to a dark blue/black jig or plastic to have a more visible presentation. Good luck and let us know.
  13. With murky water you generally want to increase your lure's ability to be seen and noticed. Whether that be with size, vibration, color or whatever it may be. Don'tlet murky water deter you from jigs, soft plastics and other baits of that nature. You don't necessarily have to make the commotion of a buzz or spinner to catch fish. Go with dark colors. Begin by finding structure and go from there.
  14. I second that!
  15. He's a kid, cut him some slack!
  16. I've never bank fished bc I've always had a canoe or boat. I'd suggest Fountainhead or Bull Run for bank fishing
  17. Out again today. Skunked...
  18. Went out for a couple hours Friday to take the new Jon for a spin. Caught a 3lber but had to go in. Pretty good for about 30 minutes of fishing. The honey hole rarely fails. Especially once it starts warming. Water was at about 59 and this evening around sunset about 62 but I had no luck. Good luck!
  19. Anyone gotten out on the reservoir recently?Just got a new boat and for once in my life can travel farther than canoe distance from the David Ford bridge. What's working for y'all?
