local shop sales and customer painting

Featured Replies

curious if anyone out there has there custom painted lures at any local stores for sale, and how the stores accepted the idea and how the customers responded to a custom painted bait.

and will i have any probs painting a factory lure and selling it, will the companies give you any hassle

thanks ben

I contacted rapala when I first started and they said they had no problem with painting as long as you sell it as a rapala. They even wanted to see some of my work. As far as selling in the stores It depends on your area. Here in FL eveyone is broke so I never expect much here. Places where there are alot of serious tournament guy's or collectors would be a better choice.

I don't know from experience, but I would think you would do better selling them yourself on an auction website, custom website, and/or message board forums (like this one).

I found that 'word of mouth' is the best seller. You get a couple bait's into the hands of guy's that will use, and catch something on them and trust me, you'll have guy's telling their buds, and so on....and before you know it you won't have time to fish!!! lol ;)

You are not kidding Barry, sometimes be careful for what you wish for.

It will come back to haunt you. No time for fishing is very true. Everyone wants you to paint for them. I haven't gotten to go in Jan or Feb because of work and painting.
