Hey guys I am basically wondering how to paint one of the plastic pontoon boats like the bass raiders/bass hunters. It looks pretty ugly right now. It's got s fading bright green but on the side has some black rubber spray coating. I am just trying to paint it somewhat camo. Do I just use plastic primer and spray paint for plastic? Also I am wanting to know how to make a good pattern with the camo to make it look the best.

BB,  Bass Hunters are made from polyethelene, which by nature, resist chemical bonding including primer/paint. Best results are usually associated with a thorough cleaning to remove all grease, oil, etc. and then roughing up (sanding) the surface to be painted. Acrylic paint should be used as it flexes even when dry. Good luck...let me know how it turns out.

We paint coolers camo all the time. I just use cheap spray paint. There are some spray paints that are designed for plastics. You can also use an adhesion promoter like BullDog.

Ok will I have to prime the boat before I paint it and apply the adhesion promoter? There is already the original paint or dye on it. I haven't stripped it. If I don't need primer, I plan on using the acrylic paint and then adding the promoter. Is that a good way to do it?

You can't strip the color that's on it, it's basically plastic and is colored throughout. I painted my old plastic boat, you need to wash it, sand it lightly, and wash it again. No oil, dirt, or any kind or residue can be left on it. I used krylon fusion paint. It's made for plastic. You're going to need a few coats. Mine lasted 6 months before I sold it, and have no clue how it's doing now. I do know there where spots that curved along the floor that peeled and flaked after I had been extremely careful and diligent in my prep work and painting. My suggestion is to leave it as it is unless your boat is really jacked up already. Plastic is just really not meant to be painted, which is why it comes with a color from the factory.

You can use a plastic dye. Theres a company named Parasol Inc. that makes a product a lot of the truck guys use to dye mirrors and door handles to match their truck.

Also there's a company called SEM that has spray paints for plastic/vinyl parts. I've used it on cars to change the interior color from tan to black.

You'd have no idea it was painted.
