Hand Tying Jigs?

Featured Replies

I started making my own jigs and am wondering what kind of material you are using for hand tying your jigs.  Also what kind of knot are you using.

Currently i'm just using some braid that I have left over and am using 3 overhand knots.  Since i'm a noobie at this, I don't know what is the norm for tying them.  As far as material goes, I was looking for some sort of material that is black.  Currently i'm using green braid and my "OCD"ness is making me sharpie the braid after I tie it.  Any help on this would be great.  Thanks guys.

I use 3/0 flat waxed thread. I use a whip finish to tie my jigs and spinnerbaits, and then cover the thread with fly tying cement or D2T. If you want more help PM me.

I have been using gel spun polyethylene (GSP) thread for most of my fly tying for bass.  Including a bunch of flies with jig skirts on the front (albeit not so many strands).  You can get it in a bunch of colors, and sizes.  It cannot be cut unless it is under tension, and if you put a clear coat on a light wrap it pretty much disappears.  You can use this stuff, with far fewer thread wraps/buildup if that is important to you.  It also comes in multiple colors.
