I just purchased this reel a couple of weeks ago and it has been acting weird. Every now and then when I start retrieving a bait the whole spool spins so I am not able to retrieve the line. I have the drag tight and it will still spin freely. After a while of keeping the line loose and spooling the line by hand it will start to work properly. Has anybody had an issue like this? I am thinking that I am going to take it back but I wanted to make sure that it was not an operator error issue. Thank you all for your time. I am hoping that I didn't get a dud.

Definitely doesn't sound like operator error. I've had my Procyon EX for nearly a year and have not experienced any issues with it.

I have had one for half a year and it's still amazing. i would contact Daiwa.

30lb braid

backing under the braid?

 

Anyway....I'll bet this is your problem and there is nothing wrong with the reel.  

Never done backing in the past but I will give it a shot and see if it works. Thanks for all of the help.

Did you put mono backing on it and then the 30lb braid?
