Pencil Popper

Featured Replies

I noticed on the Georgia elite bassmaters tournament that virtually everyone was throwing a blue pencil popper.

I think we recently had a discussion about these, and I for one thought they were pretty much only being used by the salty guys.

Obviously I was wrong.

I know the ideal forage for the bass was a blue back herring, but why the pencil popper?

Also anyone catch the details about what make, size etc?

Interesting though that the tournament was won with what else???????????????????

the good ole jig and pig.

Still that pencil popper was haulin em in, curious which models are "hot" right now

I hear ya Avid... I watched it also and couldn't believe the bass were hitting something as long as that.  It was HUGE.  I dont know i guess i wouldnt have the confidence to continuesly throw something like that.  To me it looked every bit of 10 - 12 inches long.  I do know they had 3 different treble hooks on them.  Anyway something new to me and not anyhting ill be purchasing soon :)....

Gotta love the good ol pig and jig though .... im Routing for Derrick Remix or whatever  WOLVERINE ;) .... that kid knows what he is doing... gives me some hope :)

I think it was a Cotton Cordell Pencil Popper. I do know one thing, those things bring in the stripes from miles away.  If the bass where you fish are extremely active, i would consider purchasing one.  I have several and have caught bass from 1/2 lb all the way up to 6-8 on one of these things. I think the ones i have are about 8-10 inches long and i just stick with chrome w/ blue back.
