Planning a trio for next year early July. We are thinking about many places, but one spot is Sanibel Island, Florida. I've done some research, and it looks like Snook are a main species here. Not sure what else is there. What are good techniques for snook fishing from the beach? Is their any recommended setup/gear I bring along? I'd like to not have to carry to much gear/lures as it will need to fit with all my other stuff. As for a rod, a 2 piece rod for traveling is preferable, and I'd like the shortest rod I can get away with. I'm open to all suggestions including fly fishing, spinning or baitcasting. I'd like to spend no more than $150 total. Recommendations for charters are also welcome. SirSnookALot I invite you chime in here

I'm on the east coast and haven't tried much salt water or inshore out yet, but most guys end up going with spinning gear. Depending on the time of the year and weather people will fish the spill ways, and the beach from shore. Plenty of guys on here should be able to give you more in depth info.

Mullet head, if your looking to catch the biggest snook. If your looking for smaller inshore snook, D.O.A or Gulp shrimp or live shrimp. Also, you don't have to actually fish on Sanibel island to catch snook. There literally everywhere over there. Tarpon, grouper, barracuda, snapper, sharks etc etc are very abundant...Check craigslist for guides. Hope this helps

Snook can be caught on a lot of hard baits used for bass. Live mullet arebalwaysba good bet if you have a cast net. Then you just need terminal tackle and your rod.

I was just thinking that maybe a Brawler or Ugly Stick 7' made to handle around 30lb line would do the job? A Penn reel, with 30lb braid.. That's what I use when I go surf fishing in very light surf with my uncle. In clear gulf waters would you use a fluorocarbon leader?

Snook tend to have great eyesight from what I've been told. I don't have a ton of experience fishingbut am a firm believer of using flouro where it can benefit you. Some baits arent necessarily best thrown with flouro. If using live bait I most certainly would use it.
