LACQUER ON ALL STAR ROD FOGS WHEN WET

Featured Replies

I HAVE AN OLD ALL STAR MAGNUM SPIN ROD.  WHEN FISHING IN THE RAIN THE LACQUER OVER THE GUIDE WRAPS AND OVER THE ROD SPECS (WRITEN SECTION ABOVE CORK) FOGS UP.  I HAVE TRIED WAX AND DIDN'T WORK.  SHOULD I PUT MORE LACQUER OVER AFFECTED AREAS OR SOMETHING ELSE? THANKS FOR ANY HELP.

There is no easy fix..

That isn't lacquer, it is a Rod Wrapping Finish....

The fact it is fogging tells me that moisture is getting underneath the rod finish.

The only thing you can do is let it dry fully (until you see no fogging), remove all the wax. Then if you want to stop it then you will have to water break sand the thread wrap area's and the spec decal area..

Then lay another coat of finish over each guide wrap and the decal area while turning the rod (so it will cure evenly).

If your not into that kind of work, take it to a local builder or repair person and have them do the work....

Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!!
