Rod To Pair With President For Shakey Head, Ned Rig, All Purpose

Featured Replies

Hi all! Long time lurker, first time posting. Recent bought a pfluegar president and I'm looking for a rod to pair it with. Lots of great rods at the $100 price point, but not sure what would be recommended for shakey head, Ned rig and all around use. Maybe I need multiple setups? Looking over the rods <$100. ***, falcon, h20 express, bps, and others keep coming up. Looking at *** for $80 gander mountain or waiting for new lineup.

*** *** black 7'1 m/f.

*** *** black 6'10ml/xf Or even the 6'7 ml/xf

H2O express 6'8 m/f

Any other recommendations welcome!

6'10" to 7'2" is what I like for the Ned. My designated rod for it is a Shimano Crucial 7'1" ML/F. I have a 6'10" M/XF St Croix Rage and Legend Tournament, both are techincally shakyhead rods but I'll throw the Ned rig on them as well. While they will work, you want a lighter rod for the ned than for the shakyhead. If you can save up I would buy one rod for shakyheads and another rod for the ned and drop shot. The 7'1" M/F shimano sellus would be a decent ned/drop shot rod, and the 7'2" MH/F sellus would make a good shakyhead rod. The rods you mentioned would probably be fine for ned but maybe a little light for shakyheads.

^^This^^ ...Major suppliers (Shimano , Abu Garcia , etc.) have offerings for drop shot / Ned Rig as well as shakyhead / weightless worm applications . As cbass12 indicated - it's a little much to expect a rod to do all things you mentioned and do them well.

I use a 7ft ML Zodias for the ned..It will work for a light shaky head, say 3/16 or less, but any more and I use a Yamamoto medium..

KCW you got 2 great rods that will cover 90% of your spinning presentations. I would suggest a Shimano Sahara or Symetre for the ML. I use both on my ML rods and spooled with Sniper FC in 7 or 8 lb. test you have a great drop shot or light weight finesse setup. I also throw 1/4 oz Rattle Traps on these. You can cast a light lure a mile with that ML XF
