Questions On Rod Set-Ups

Featured Replies

Hey yall, like I've stated before I just recently got back into bass fishing (this past year) and I am hoping to be ready for a few tournaments next year, that's just a goal. What I wanted to know is what other rod and reel combos do you think I need? I'm trying to stick with 4-5. Right now I'm outfitted with:

St Croix Mojo 7' M F with Shimano Curado @ 6.3:1 #50 braid with fluoro leader

St Croix Mojo 7' MH F with Shimano Curado @ 6.3:1 #50 braid with fluoro leader

And I have some cheap ugly sticks that I should just replace...

1 spinning ( not sure on specs all I know is that it's 6' MH F) 10lb mono

1 Ugky stick elite casting combo 6'6 with ? reel @ 6.2:1 12lb fluro

The mojos are "technique specific rods" but I don't want to get the 6 rods (but would like to stay with them) or so they have, like I said earlier I'm just looking to have 4-5 I'm assuming I would need a crank rod, what reel would be best and would that work for jerks as well? Thanks in advance to all who respond

I'd get the St. Croix Mojo 6'10 M for cranks and it'll work as well with jerkbaits. I use a 6 gear ratio reel for cranking rather than a 5 because for me it's easier to slow down the retrieve rather than speed up and a 6 gear would work better than a 5 if you're using it for jerkbaits as well. Then If you do a good bit of pitching/flipping/t-rigs/jigs then get around a 7'3 MH or H. I use a 7 gear ratio reel for these techniques. If you don't Use these techniques often then I'd skip that setup for now (your 7' MH should be fine) and look at 1-2 spinning setups if you're more of a finesse fisherman. I like anywhere from a 6'6 to a 7' ML or M spinning rod and any decent reel will do a lot of people like the Pflueger Presidents for the price i don't have any experience with them.
