New Spinning Rod

Featured Replies

Hey, I'm thinking about a new spinning rod for throwing weightless flukes and senkos. So im thinking a medium or medium heavy fast action. Anyone have any suggestions, preferably under $100

Daiwa Procyon 7' medium light, extra fast will work fine. I was gifted that rod and I was going to send it back but after using it I decided to keep it as a back up and then give it to my grandson as an all purpose spinning rod. I have used it for shaky heads and flukes and things like that but it was good at throwing anything from a 5" Senko down to a 1/8oz tube jig with decent sensitivity for a $70 dollar rod. The extra fast action is probably where the added sensitivity comes from but it also makes it easy to skip with and it is nice for working a fluke and even though it says medium light, it is a medium power, if you went with a medium heavy it would be too much.

I prefer a M XF action for my weightless flukes and stickbaits.  I currently am using a St. Croix Rage 6'8" MXF and have been very pleased with it's performance.  They are a 140 rod but i believe in the st croix bargain room they have them for 100.

X2 that's just an awesome blank for weightless senkos.

I agree with you, I too like a medium extra fast, I use a 6'9" and I think anywhere in the 6'6" to 7' range is great for those baits. I suggested the Procyon because it is a ML-XF but it under rated, it is actually a medium power, and I also agree, I'd go with the Rage but he is looking for something less than or under $100, not right at that price, when I see "under $100" I think $60 to $80 as that is what most anglers are looking at.

Rage is on sale for $99, that's under $100 :). And a killer value at that price. As long as you can get comfortable with the handle/reel seat.

I don't have experience with them or know which one would be a good Senko rod, but Cabelas has *** Blacks on sale on their website now. Seems to have a good following and reputation as very sensitive at their price point.

Where is it on sale?

+1 on the St. Croix Rage.  Great deal and an awesome rod..St. Croix doesn't get as much run as it deserves either, they're like the offensive lineman of fishing.
