  1. I'm looking at picking up a new rod for flipping and pitching. Looking at the Fenwick HMG, Cabelas Tournament ZX or the Dobyns Fury. Obviously looking in the $100 range. Other rod necessity is a deep crankin stick. Looking at the *** *** Crankbait rod. Any reviews on this stick?
  2. I live in Northfield. Fish the lakes around Faribault, pools 3 & 4, St. Croix, Minnetonka and make a few trips up state each summer. Got the boat ready for saturday, actually I've been ready for months!
  3. My goal this season are to get better with a jerkbait and an overall deepwater bass fisherman. I grew up throwing a spinnerbait and topwater along the shoreline then progressed into flippin and pitchin soft plastics and worms along the shoreline. I will admit, if the fish are not on the shoreline I'm lost. I've tried fishing humps and points and bars but my confidence goes way down and with that so does my fish "catching". Ive told myself to just leave the shallow water gear at home so I'm not tempted to pull it out when I'm not having luck. If I want to get better in deep water I need to upgrade and get better with my electronics as well. These are my goals, what are yours?
  4. Been reading several articles recently about hot summer day fishing. Most say very shallow or deep. Some talk about looking deeper then other fisherman, don't be afraid to fish in 50-60', blah blah blah. How can this be the case when I'm also reading articles about not fishing below the thermocline? I've always thought the thermocline restricts the vertical movement. Help understand the "dog days" of summer pushing fish deep and the thermocline. Thanks
  5. I like this! Seems like first thing in the morning will be your best chance of a big girl so why not start where they're at. I just didn't know if most big fish came up early then slide back out deep or if you start first thing targeting deep?
  6. Fished a tourney yesterday and caught 40+ bass but 2.4 lbs was my largest fish. Caught most fish beating the bank with a frog, buzz bait and spinnerbait. Didn't do well as guys brought in limits of 3-5 lbers. Should I have focused off shore more to find the larger fish? My co angler caught a 5lb late in the day on a 10xd on a rock pile in 12 ft of water. Thermocline showed up around 15 ft on my graph so figured I wouldn't touchange anything below that. Tough cause some guys say don't leave a technique that's working but I think I should have left that technique to find bigger fish. Very broad question but do the bigger fish go deep this time of year? Do those bigger fish go shallow early morning then shift out as the temps come up? I know it's situational and a broad question but any help is appreciated!
  7. First time running this crank today in a club tournament. The good: my partner caught the big bass using this lure (5.04 lbs). The bad: I unpackaged 4 new 10xd cranks and only 1 ran true. I know I can adjust but if they say tank tested on the box they better run true!
  8. I ran a boat last weekend with a terrova and it was sweet in the open water. Anyone have both and switch back and forth? I currently have a fortrex so if I picked up a terrova, how much work is it to switch back and forth. Like the foot control in tight situations but if I know I'll be offshore then I'd like the terrova.
  9. I'm needing to put new trailer tires on. I currently have Goodyear Marathon st215/75r14. Anyone have suggestions for good replacement tires or are these goodyears a decent tire. Just purchased the boat last spring so not sure how long these tires lasted. Thanks
  10. Personal favorite is a jig. Depending on depth I usually fish a 3/8 - 1/2 ounce flippin jig with a flat back trailer to help me skip it up under. This is your best option around tough low docks. If they're are up then I've used Texas rigs and senkos a lot. Even hot days I'll throw a top water frog up under docks and slowly twitch it in the shade with good success. I love dock fishing. Hotter the better cause it concentrates the fish in the shade and can pull several from each dock. When you figure out if they're using the front or back you can almost call your shot when you come up to the next dock. Good luck
  11. I guess I'll start with 1 then start saving for #2. Thanks guys!
  12. I'm looking at putting a shallow water anchor on my xpress X19TS. Im not set on power pole or talon yet but leaning towards talon so I can get 12' instead of 8' on the power pole (I know they make 10' but way to tall). My question, can I get away with 1 talon or will that not hold well enough? Don't have the funds for 2 right now but worried about bad front end swing. I think if I position my self right on the wind/current I'll be OK? Also plan on waiting till there's a sale going on. Hard time spend the full asking price. Anyone know of any deals out there?
  13. My old school dash speedo isn't working so this came from my GPS. I will get the pad measurement later and not sure when I'll be on water that I can open it up again that I can know the rpms. Thanks for the help guys
  14. Nevermind, wide open throttle, got it. I'll have to check later when I can open it up again. The prop to pad measurement, is that distance below pad or distance from prop to pad horizontally? Sorry, new to this topic. The boat currently has a 25 pitch powertech 4 blade but came with a raker 2 26 pitch 3 blade that I would think be a little faster? But would maybe lose some hole shot?
  15. Thanks fishnkamp, I looked over there and saw numbers from 65 to 80mph with most reaching that 70mph mark. Sorry, what is wot? I can definitely get those # together.
  16. I have a buddy with a 19 ft fiberglass Triton with the exact same motor and he's close to 70mph. I would think his boat is heavier and shouldn't be faster than mine?
  17. I recently purchased an 06 Xpress x19 TS with an Evinrude Etec 200hp. I ran it on the Mississippi last weekend and topped out around 60mph. Forgive me, I don't have the prop info right now but can get it later. I thought it seemed a little slow. We had 2 guys, a full tank and some gear but really thought I'd be closer to 70mph. Am I off in my expectation or is there something wrong with the setup? It has a 6" manual jack plate. Need any more info?
  18. Wayne, you nailed it!!! I switched those wires and BOOM it fired up. This is why I use this site, thank you!
  19. Both wires are black on the power supply. What I've read is the wire with the white dashes is the positive but not always. Maybe Ill try to turn them around? Thanks Wayne
  20. So I finally got everything I needed to put this together and... Fail! I ran a 3 amp inline fuse through the positive line. I bought a 1 amp ac to dc wall plug and a humminbird pc10 power cord. Butt jointed everything together, hit the power and nothing. Anything obvious I did wrong or did I mess up a butt splice somewhere? Very disappointing! Was hoping to play before this weekends tourney
  21. I do have boat insurance with progressive, guess I should have called them first.
  22. The plan fell apart quickly. I hit a deer half way to the ozarks and had to have my expedition and boat towed home. Expedition my be totalled, no damage to boat. So much time and research down the drain to just be sitting here watching the boats go by. At least everyone is safe. AAA towed the vehicle for free but the boat was $425! There goes what I'd saved up towards a powerpole. O well, cheers is what I'll be saying a lot of tonight
  23. Perfect . I'll let yall know how it works. Thanks!!!
  24. I'm just running an 858. What do you mean when you says it's not a quality power sounce? Something better? Also, if I'm running on a 1 amp power do I need a fuse? Really, thanks a ton for your guys help. Btw, I stopped and looked how bass pro had all their units running last night. They had a speaker spring clip board that all the power cords ran to. Interesting concept.
  25. http://www.amazon.com/12-Volt-Power-Supply-Standard/dp/B009ZZDE0O#immersive-view_1464320651773 Looking at this power cable above. If I spliced this power supply to a humminbird pc10 power cable with an inline fuse, would this work in my living room?
