  1. Really cool. Kind funny when these guys are young they have the drive to do whatever it takes to win and when they've made it and they ask if someone just getting into it should do it they say no or maybe try something else. Great vid
  2. Today I fshed a lake that has a lot of that sticky green slim the coats whatever lure touches the bottom. When the water is still cold like this I seem to have best luck throwing senkos but they get covered about every other cast. What are my other options for sluggish fish around this green mess?
  3. Wow, $25+ for the megabass 110! That ain't happening
  4. Wow, a lot of options and opinions:) thanks guys! I think I'll just have to pick up a couple and try them out. When watching videos, guys stress to use them in clear water. At what point do you say the water is to stained or dirty to pull out the jerkbait?
  5. What's everyone's favorite jerkbait? I ordered a smithwick but that seems to big for the waters I'm fishing. I think I'll try an xrap or a kvd but want to hear what you all think.
  6. I'm sorry guys, yes swimJIG! The paca craw doesn't even flap so I don't know what the hip was with that. I have heard good things about the rage craw
  7. I'm set on trying to catch fish on a swim bait this year. I've always heard good things about the netbait paca craw so I saw a sale the other day and bought 5 packs. I used them today and I'm really disappointed in the movement from the claws. What other trailer do you guys like?
  8. Sounds like a broken record in here. I want to learn to fish deeper water. I'm a tie a spinnerbait on and start pounding shorelines type of bass fisherman. The last time I fished last fall I brought 1 rod with a pack of senkos. I had a blast! My buddy taught me a lot and I covered half as much water and caught more fish. I've really expanded my tackle selection over the winter. Here is some of my list: senkos, zoom finesse worm and shakey head jigs, swim jigs, football jigs, top water Zara spook, assorted jerkbaits, different square bill cranks, chatterbaits and the list goes on I'm sure! I struggle fishing weeds and especially jigs and worms in weeds. I struggle to detect bites vs a clump of weeds:) cause I've set the hook on some giant clumps of grass in my life. O and drop shooting! I've been watching so much MLF fishing that it's obvious the drop shot works. But it may just be me but I think smaller fish come on the drop shot but I'm gonna give it a go. So if you can't tell I'm ready for this ice to get off our lakes here in iowa!
  9. Really appreciate the responses fellas. Great info! Can't wait to get a couple in hand and I'll let you know what I decide
  10. Ok just looking at the cabelas zx cause they are on sale:) will be at cabelas next weekend to get the feel of the HMG and HMX . Thanks djman
  11. Hey guys. Just ordered 2 new reels and now need to attach them to something. Anyone have opinions on the cabelas zx series? I also love fen wick. I have a fenwick silverhawk for jig/wormin. I'm looking at the HMG or HMX series, any opinions there? If not then I'm going to pick up 2 more silverhawks. Thanks guys! Almost 60 degrees today in Iowa, this hard water will be soft soon!
  12. Thanks for the responses guys. I'm just restless and want to fish as I sit inside with 2" of fresh snow from last night. Next week were supposed to see 50 degrees. Here's what I'm gonna try. Red craw lipless crank, drop shot worm, red wiggle wart, and Carolina rigged lizard. I'm gonna start on the north shore line shallow. If this doesn't work ill move out to the transition areas. For ice out fish do you focus on the quick depth change from deep to shallow or the long gradual flats? Any other options for baits or lake zones?
  13. What parts of the lake do you focus on? Do the fish wait to transition shallower once the water gets in the upper 50s? Do I go upper end of the lake or fingers coming out of the deepest part of the lake?
  14. Sorry, southwest iowa
  15. I will be fishing in a tournament at the end of march so the water temps will still be very cold. In this situation where do you guys look first? Are fish still deep or do they come shallow to warm up? Would you look for bass along the north shore or a wind blown shore? I assume you fish slow as the fish will still be lethargic.
  16. Hey guys. New to the site. From Des Moines Iowa and originally from NE Iowa . Grew up fishing the Mississippi backwaters and now hit several central Iowa lakes. This summer I'll be fishing in my first tournaments and joined the site learn as much as possible.
