What Do You Want To Learn In 2015

Featured Replies

So every year I pick a new type of bait, rig, or type if fishing that I have had little to no experience with and try to learn how to effectively use it. I think it is a great way to become a more versatile fisherman. Last year for me it was the drop shot and squarebills.

For 2015 I want to Learn to fish lipless crankbaits, shakey heads, and start fishing deeper water structure.

What is your goal for 2015?

EVERYTHING

I have to say, the only finesse bait/soft plastic I've ever caught a fish on is a tube. So I plan on becoming proficient in soft plastics this year. I have told myself that I will NOT tie on a spinnerbait once this year. A promise which I'm sure I will not keep. But I have a bunch of senkos, finesse worms, grubs, and lizards, and I want to commit to catching fish on texas rigs, wacky rigs. Also I want to become better with crankbaits and jerkbaits.

Jig fishing. I'm just starting to learn t rigs. Made me feel so good to finally catch one on a t rigged worm Saturday

You should fish a shaky head

That too. Along with other jig applications.

Swim jigs.

I want to fish more with a drop shot rig, fish more deep structure, and work on my pitching.

Jigs, tubes, flukes, lizards, and frogs. I want to fish craws more as well.

Mine is getting better at finding fish! Idk why but it's so hard for me

I would feel most fortunate to learn just two things and two things only in 2015.

First I want to see, first hand, exactly what my friend Dwight's face looks like while he's holding his first 8 pound plus Lake Erie Smallmouth.

And Second, I'd like to be there to learn how big a smile my buddy Jeff can have, when he weighs his first "Teen" size Mexican Grande' . . .

That's not too much to ask . . . . .

Finesse methods, more deep water, drop shot is a goal, I have some big glide baits I want to put on and stick with. Crankbaits and spinners are my staple lures, but don"t always produce.

just bought my first b/c combo (tatula 7'1" MHXF + Tatula 100HSL) so I want to become proficient with it including the arts of pitching and skipping.

Also want to gain confidence in fishing a jig.

Jerkbaits for me. Hopefully I can start fishing here in the next week or so.

Drop shot and Scroungers.

Two applications I think I will do well with in the waters I fish...

Sounds like a broken record in here. I want to learn to fish deeper water. I'm a tie a spinnerbait on and start pounding shorelines type of bass fisherman. The last time I fished last fall I brought 1 rod with a pack of senkos. I had a blast! My buddy taught me a lot and I covered half as much water and caught more fish. I've really expanded my tackle selection over the winter. Here is some of my list: senkos, zoom finesse worm and shakey head jigs, swim jigs, football jigs, top water Zara spook, assorted jerkbaits, different square bill cranks, chatterbaits and the list goes on I'm sure! I struggle fishing weeds and especially jigs and worms in weeds. I struggle to detect bites vs a clump of weeds:) cause I've set the hook on some giant clumps of grass in my life. O and drop shooting! I've been watching so much MLF fishing that it's obvious the drop shot works. But it may just be me but I think smaller fish come on the drop shot but I'm gonna give it a go. So if you can't tell I'm ready for this ice to get off our lakes here in iowa!

fish more than last year.

I want to learn my brand spanking new downscan Lowrance. I am anxious. Might not get a lot of fishing in at first. I'll be looking at everything. I use to fish an old bridge and there was a stickup on both ends. I always thought they were post, now maybe I'll find out .

My only goal is to catch a bigger bass than my brother.  He got me last year, ain't gonna happen again.

Jigs and Pigs are my main focus this year. But I also want to learn to pair that with a good search bait like spinnerbaits or crankbaits.

Also, I need to get more skilled with my kayak. Flipping from the kayak while seated has shown itself to be quite a challenge that I want to overcome as well.

Started at the end of the season, but this season I want to really work an Umbrella rig in my home waters, that and some glide swimbaits. I'm realistic though, and always end up turning back to what has always worked for me.

Definitely drop shot.  As a foot note, would love to have a nice bass blow up on a top water.

Gonna try lighter tackle too.

Lastly, break my personal best of 4.25 smallie.

Painting baits, more on rod building, getting better at pitch skipping, and the back hand skip.

i want to get better with top water, flukes and other soft plastics. Hopefully this ice is off by Saturday so I can get my lines wet!
