 New to boat ownership and electronics so I apologize in advance for the possibly noob questions.

 

I am planning on purchasing the forthcoming Humminbird Helix 7 SI GPS. I was wondering if I would be able to plug two of those units together via the HB ethernet cable and share one transducer. If so would I be able to get a SI capable transducer and have one unit side image capable and one not side image capable on the same transducer.

No, the Helix series are "standalone" only. That is why they are less expensive than the other models.

With what you want, you get more than the ability to share a single transducer.

 

The Ethernet connected units can share sonar technologies, transducers (including 360), temp sensor, accessories (including iPilot Link) and GPS data..

 

Technology sharing means a 2D-only or a DI unit can display Side Imaging from a Side Imaging unit.

The number of displays and sensors possible for the network is unlimited--just need the Ethernet switch/s to connect all of it together if more that two devices are involved.

 

A 2D or DI unit can support a 360 transducer by itself and give those units the SI capability too.

Ethernet provides data transfer, not power.

Each unit has its own power cord.
