I was doing some Sonar Charts Live yesterday and since the thermocline is present, I used the Map Options Fishing Mode to indicate the level of the thermocline to make it easier to find the areas when it intersected with the bottom.

The depth hightlighting (white) is set at 18'-22'

Using the thermocline pattern resulted in 27 bass caught.

Great idea, finally have a purpose for this feature now.

Wayne that is a great idea and use for that that I haven't thought about. Usually I just use it for trolling but now have a new use

If the waters you fish have have weeds that have a max depth. Set the highlighting at that depth + or - a couple of feet, and you can see all around the lake where the weed points and cuts are.

One I fish, the weeds don't grow any deeper than 12'. Instant weed pattern.

On my sonar/GPS units, I use the Shaded Depth for that. That colors from the shore to the set depth. I use that to create another "shoreline".

This is on a smartphone or tablet using the fish options in the menu but you can view all the updates in lowrance and the community edits and what not

Understood.  But are these features also available on the Gen 2 units?  Sorry, but there's been so many new units + updates in the past few years, it's hard to remember what does what these days.

Some additional settings for Navionics mapping was added for Lowrance units for the Gen3 and via update for the Gen2.

This is the software release notes. I asked a GEN3 owner about the depth shading a couple of days ago when I showed him the example posted above. He stated his unit won't do that.

I don't know what "depth shading" is as listed in the notes. I would guess it is the same as the example, but in color. I am not fluent in Lowrance stuff.

My only experience with that feature is the Mobile App and Lakemaster mapping in Humminbird units.
