Daiwa Tatula Rod For Cranking

Featured Replies

I am thinking of purchasing a Daiwa Tatula for deep diving crank baits. If anyone has used Tatulas for cranking, what your thoughts are on the model that you use?

I use a 6'10 medium heavy fast and love it for squarebills spinners and jigs pretty much all purpose

Most deep divers are roughly 1oz. There isn't a cranking rod in the lineup that can handle that. I have the 7'7" medium regular action and my 1oz baits really strain it. 3/4oz would be pushing it.

Is yours the glass version?

I believe that they released new additional versions at this years icast...I know Brent Ehler requested an 8ft glass rod specifically for deep divers.

It may be the zillion line however...

I have had the glass 771mrb all season and its awesome. I've thrown 3/4 without issue. I feel like an ounce is well within its capability. There is also a 721mhrb glass that would be better for dd22's, 10xd's, etc. I never go deeper than 20, anyway, so I don't worry about it. Anyway, I love that rod for pretty much anything with a treble hook. I have it matched to a T3 with 30lb braid and could just about bounce 1/2 oz cranks, spoons, and lipless off the moon if I wanted to, and if a get a bite, I'm getting that fish. They don't throw baits from that rod.post-50560-0-82370800-1439484064_thumb.j

it'll be hard to type that review when you can't put the rod down. j/s...
