For stuff like this, I use a stencil-making product called "Frisket."  You can get it at Hobby Lobby.   Clear, very flexible plastic with an adhesive backing.  It comes with paper backing, so you can just stick it back on the paper when you're done.  I heard about this stuff from BobP - - I really like it.  

For general on-the-fly body masking or stenciling, I just use 3M delicate blue painter's tape (orange inner label).

Cool thx, I will check that out, I wanted to make a couple craw patterns, plus try the one you made. I think it would work well in the river I fish for smallys!
