"Tusker" swimbait prototype Update: painted

Featured Replies

Pretty interesting.  It might be a little too much drag though, tough to say.  Those forward facing tusks might catch a bass' mouth and keep the bait from sliding forward and allowing the hooks to set.  But you are sure thinking outside the the box and that is where the truly great ideas come from.  I applaud you.

Ben, like Infidel, have to amdire your creativity and hope it works out according to plan.

You mentioned Crazy Joe in one of your earlier posts and I think you guys have a lot in common on bait design. I would hate to see you both in my shop at the same time, who knows what might come out, but I'll bet it would be something bold and grab your attention.

A different looking bait for sure.   I can see some potential problems with the nails.   You will have to get the line tie lower on the nose, I don't think the bait will swim with the line tie up that high.

CRAZY :)

Thanks guys.

I never thought of that. I'll add another line tie below the nose and see which gives a better action.

oh. seems like it may hurt the fish more than it needs to be... pretty mean lookin tho :)

Thanks! I changed the main tusks for longer ones that have round tips, so hopefully spearing fish with the tusks won't be an issue.

Ben

I can see this getting hung up very easily...

Looks good, hope it performs well also. Nice way to think outside the box.

Catfish gone mad.

That's the exact same thing I thought

I'm not seeing exactly what its supposed to be...

if a fish were to get the whole thing in its mouth, the force you exert on the front end from reeling it in will be more than enough to impale the poor fish. I'm sorry but aesthetically it's poor and functionally its poorer I would just remove the tusk since it does nothing good for the fish

sorry if it seems harsh but you posted this wanted comments and criticism so thats my 2 cents

I will saw you're very imaginative

BLee, I was just playing around when I made this; it's not supposed to mimic anything.

Thai, you can't see it from the pics but the new tusks are dull and shouldn't be able to impale a fish. Also, this bait is huge (6" long not counting the tusks or the tail), and only a fish with a mouth that is larger than the bait would be able to get the whole thing in its mouth.

Interesting bait. You really shouldn't have to defend yourself for making it though.

You know, people said that the guy who made the, "banjo bait" was crazy...  You never really know if something is going to work, until you try it...  I agree that it might impale the fish, but it would make a killer ocean bait...  I mean, if you intend to keep the fish...  :)
