- Ducketts Vs. Dobyns
I've fished both and own two Dobyns Champions and have owned two Dobyns Savvy rods. I personally prefer the Dobyns rods but that only due to the fact that I can't stand the way the Duckett rods look, they're just ugly to me. Comparing the Duckett to the Savvy, same price range, the Duckett easily wins with its balance, weight, and sensitivity but they are a bit slower in action. The Ducketts are lighter than the Champions but the Champions balance well with alot of reels. If the Micro Magic rods looked like the Duckett Ghost rods or had a different color blank and color scheme, I could easily fish them and not want another rod...seeing Terry Scroggins boat flip a 10lber on one doesn't hurt either.- Diawa Sol For A Song
That's awesome. I've picked up several for around 120-130. Sometimes you just luck out.- Shimano Cardiff
I have a 300 that I use for musky fishing and really like. I started with an old pro qualifier round reel that was very similar to the Cardiff. They seem to be great reels for the price.- Field And Stream Brand Rods At Dicks Sporting Goods
I bought one of the original tech spec rods a few years ago and used it pretty heavily as a bank rod for the last 2-3 years. For the price they are pretty good rods but I started having problems the end of last year and has since been replaced. The reel seat has become worn and the reel is now loose on it, its very hard to keep the reel secure, even with it locked down as tight as possible it still is loose.- Centrifugal Or Magnetic Brakes...... Choose One!
I prefer centrifugal braking over magnetic. Shimano's VBS is where it's at for me, I prefer it over any other braking system, followed closely by the Daiwa Magforce-Z and V for magnetic systems. I've fished several dual braking systems and the just don't cut it for me, you shouldn't have to combine two sub-par systems to make a reel work correctly.- Just Wanted To Start A Fun Thread
Where I fish clear is a few feet and for cranks and top water I'm not too concerned with visibility. Im not going to throw suspending jerkbaits with it bit if its an issue a leader is always a viable solution.- Just Wanted To Start A Fun Thread
My shallow crank and topwater combo, a Sol on a 6'10"MH Carrot Stix Gold with 12lb Trilene Sensation in blaze orange. It's probably the lightest and most balanced combo I own next to my Zillion/Alphas combo.- $150 To Spend
- G Loomis Edge Rods
You and me both. Too bad they're ugly. is it just me or do they look unfinished in that picture.- Favorite Squarebill Crankbait
Lucky Craft Fat CB BDS-1 in Golden Craw Lucky Craft RC 1.5- Tubes...what Is Your Favorite Flavor?
I use two tubes and about 3 colors; Cabin Creek Critter Gitter in Summer Moss and BPS Tender Tube in Melon Pepper and Watermelon Red- Deal At Dicks For Those Interested
I don't know if this has been mentioned, if so, my mistake. I got a flyer from Dicks this weekend that said they will have a deal this week that if you buy a W&M Tessera rod you can get a W&M Victory reel for free. I'm not a big fan of these rods but it seems like a good deal for the whole combo for $90-$100. Don't know if this is just local but since there's been alot of talk about getting new gear on a budget recently, this would be a good time to do so. Couldn't hurt to check- How Do You Guys Fish Your Rat L Traps Or Red Eye Shads?
The only real time I've had success with them is ripping them out of grass. Cast it out, let it sink, slowly reel until you hit grass, rip it up, reel, rip......- Guntersville Guides
I go to Guntersville a few times a year with a buddy who started going there on guided trips. His favorite guide was Spinnerbait Kid, like Kent said. He went with several different guides but he said that Alex was his favorite. If I ever go down there on my own I would try to get a trip with him. - Ducketts Vs. Dobyns
