Mh Gx2

Featured Replies

I've had my MH Ugly Stik GX2 for about a year now. I have it coupled with a Penn Conflict reel. I Originally used it for smaller inshore fish when I would go to the beach to fish. I have really tried to get used to it for Bass fishing and it just seems overly bulky, unbalanced, and heavy. Am I crazy or does anyone else notice it? What are your setups if you use one?

What's the length, line rating, and intended purpose of the rod (inshore, freshwater etc.)?

Ugly Stiks are made not to break, and that's about it. The gx2 has no sensitivity and is very heavy/bulky. The elite that they cam out with is a lot better than the gx2, as it has a lot more graphite in the blank. Being made of fiberglass, ugly stiks are just heavy and not sensitive. After using higher-quality rods, it is difficult to use one.

7', 15-30 lb braid, its a freshwater rod but it works fine for inshore.

What is the rod made of? Is it tip heavy? Or is just too heavy in general?

I think graphite with a glass tip. Fast action, has an overly large butt section. Honestly seems too heavy in the back end and the thickness of the butt end is also a downside

Just get a new rod lol. You really don't want a rod with a glass tip for bass fishing unless its for cranking. Better options for under 50$ would be the H20 Ethos

Yeah, I almost hate to not use it. It was only $40-50 but still. I wish someone would just buy it off me...
