Broward County: Griffin Canal Bank Fishing

Featured Replies

Hey guys, I've been wondering if anyone has had any luck fishing the Griffin Canal or the South New River Canal. I have fished there once or twice with no luck and I've heard you can catch Bass Peacocks and even maybe a snook or tarpon. Anyone have any tips on where to fish (I usually go to the Nob Hill intersection) and what baits to use? I am very interested in catching a snook in freshwater but know only of that spot and the Canal running along State Road 84 I also do enjoy catching everything else in those waters so if anyone has any info on pretty much anything in the Davie/Plantation/Cooper City I'm interested. Thanks!

That Nob Hill area can be pretty good, I prefer the feeder canals.  Last time down that way I caught about a 4 lb peacock.

NIce place to go if you live near there, almost 100 mile trip both ways 4me,  too far for just a 4 pounder and there is no guarantee of that.

Always worth the drive to catch something that you never caught before.

Anyone have any tips on some good baits for fishing these types of canals

Baits or lures would depend on the condition of the water.  I don't fish peacocks much different than bass, time of the year is a better measure, it's peacock time now, not bass.

I like throwing things in a perch pattern at them, lipless crankbaits like this look a lot like the Mayan cichlids. Also had success with chartreuse (yellow to me) and black
