Help Needed! Daiwa Pixy Type R Bearings

Featured Replies

Hello everyone. Thanks for taking the time to read this over. My situation........ I got and installed some new Hedgehog bearings in a few reels today - Steez, Zillion, Metanium and Pixy Type R. Everything went smooth..... well except for the tiny retainer wire shooting across the room! Boy was that a bugga to find. Anywho, I went out and made some cast at my local water hole. While I love the added benefits I really do not care for the noise. I liked it silent before.. No biggie I will just go back and change the Pixy Type R back to stock. Problem.................. Somehow all the factory bearings ended up together and now I do not know which ones belong to what. I know which came out of the Metanium but I have no idea of how to tell which came out of the Zillion, Steez or Pixy.

1- Is there anyway to tell them apart?

2- If need be where can I order a factory replacement set?  I do not care for the ceramic sound.

Thanks in advance,

#1 - No, not really. All the stock bearings will be of equal quality. Just pick 2 bearings that fit into the sideplate and the metal cup on the spool shaft. Both bearings are the same inner diameter and thickness. Just the outside diameter is different.

Side - 3x8x4

Spool - 3x10x4

#2 - oil your hedgehog bearings. Ceramics are loud when ran dry. Adding oil will quiet them down a good bit.

Thanks for the reply. So the bearings from the Zillion are as good as or the same as the ones from the Steez or Pixy?

That is correct,sir.

The Steez and Zillion use a larger spool bearing. So that one should be pretty simple to figure out. If I remember correctly they use a 3x10x4 sideplate bearing which is what the pxr uses on the spool shaft. So you should have 3 that are the same size there. I'm not familiar with Shimano bearing sizes since I'm a Daiwa guy. I think my CH51E used 2 3x10x4 bearings. Don't worry about it. Pick 2 that fit the o.d. of the places they're going.

I agree. One small drop of oil will help quite them a bit assuming you were running them dry. I am having some added to a Scorpion and a T3 MX.

Actually I did oil them with some Alchemy med light oil that I purchased with the bearings and the bearing pin tool. I used one drop.
