Featured Replies

I'm interested in beginning to pour my own soft plastic's. my first question is, is there any difference between aluminum molds and plastic molds. if so what is it, also suppliers of molds , plastic materials, and glitter would be appreciated.

Just go to www.tackleunderground.com and you will get all your questions asked and then some.  BEWARE:  The tackle making monkey is far worse that the bait monkey.   ;D

Aluminum molds are much more expensive, but last a lot longer than PVC silicone molds!  You can find all the stuff you need at lure craft.  :D

Those are the main places to get your supplies. The real inexpensive way to go is to make your own molds. Glue a bait down to a flat surface, cover it good with plaster of paris, (POP), and then bake it to "cure" the POP. Seal it with a 50/50 mix of Elmers glue and water. And then you have a mold.

Aluminum is more expensive. They give you great lures providing it is designed right. There are open sided, 2 sided, and injected type molds. In my opinion, Bears is the place to go. They have great customer service and also a plastic forum for your questions. They also do custom stuff.

Think of a bait that you use all the time and that is where you may want to start. senko's or "sticks" are real popular.

Good luck and welcome to the "sickness".
