Denali Kovert 7'2" H. Weight Vs Balance

Featured Replies

So I've been looking to try out new rods since I've had a little run in with the company that most of my rods are made by.  I received a Denali Kovert 7'2" H fast on Friday, I was planning to use this rod for pitching exclusively.  I noticed that the rod seems really heavy compared to my previous heavy action rods and much heavier than the rods I'm used to which are mainly Falcon Lowriders. I really want to like this rod but the weight has me hesitant. A Curado 200HG would go on this rod. It seemed to balance very well with the Curado.

So the question is: How important to everyone is the actual weight of the rod VS the balance of the rod? Guess I've been spoiled with the Lowriders.

I'm conflicted, I've already talked to TW about a return but I haven't decided if I should actually fish with it and see if the performance outweighs the weight. And if the weight ends up not bothering me.

I had a couple denalis.... Had... Like you said they were just way to heavy for me. Very sensitive rod and comfortable grip but just to heavy for me.

Only you can answer that question though. If its comfortable for you to fish, fish it. I just couldn't go from fishing a Powell to one of those.

I just went ahead and sent it back to TW for another Falcon.  I'm glad I'm not only the one that thought they were heavy though.   I guess I had never put that much thought into the weight until I got that rod.  It felt really well built but I just didn't think I would get used to the weight.
