Reel painting.

Featured Replies

Ok, I have a Daiwa Megaforce I am willing to sacrifice and practice on. It has plastic side plates. I want to paint it simple glossy black. I don't have an airbrush. So can anyone please recommend a good can of spray paint and clear coating.. Any other tips will be helpful. Like how many coats of paint and how many coats of clear. Thanks in advance.

I tried it once on an all metal reel with rattle cans of Duplicolor auto paint and clearcoat.  Looked great!  For about a month, then it began to get scratches and chips.  I don't think anything replaces a factory finish.  Were I to do it again, I'd go with a catalyzed 2 part auto clearcoat to get some durability.  I sanded to clean metal, used an auto primer, 2 light coats of paint, 2 light coats of clear.

That's great info. I have two older Citicas apart that I wanted to paint. Going to give it a try.
