Powell Utility Rods Good For Jigs?

Featured Replies

Hi guys, I didn't really see a question like this so I'm just going to go ahead and ask,

I'm on a budget, I can't own a ton of rods and my idea was to get a heavy action rod which could do a variety of things e.g. A-rigs, Buzzbaits, Frogs, swim baits and most importantly, jigs. I have owned a very nice jig rod until it found a new home at the bottom of the lake. I like the Powell Inferno 765 because it can handle anything from 3/8-ounce lures to 3-ounce lures but my question to you guys is How does it work with jigs? How well compared to actual jig rods?

Thanks everybody,

Tom

I own a couple of Powell's but not the 765 Inferno. They are very dice rods for the monies. If you think you are going to use 2-3 oz lures then by all means go with it. However, if you will use it more for jigs I would go with this: *** *** Black 2 Cast Rod 7'3" Heavy with the Omen2 Cast C handle. I love the full cork handles. Same price as the Powell Inferno.

Remember that a rods lure rating is just a guideline and usually the sweet spot is 1/2 of what it's rated. Give or take a little bit.
