My First Attempt At The Wrench Wrig (My Own Spelling)

What do you think? I'll try it next time out and give a report. It ain't the tiniest wrench in the tool box. But I'm not going to buy one for this experiment. I think it calls for a day with full sun to get the most out of the finish. It's not chrome either. That's 20# Big Game and a Gama 3/0 Octopus hook. So the hooksets ought to be pretty easy.

It's a metric, BTW. I knew someone would ask. 10mm. Hopefully, it won't catch invasive fish from other countries. :)

Give it a try a let us know. Would the leader be too long? I don't remember on the other video.

I don't know about the line length. I don't think Palm Beach Pete had done enough research to know either. That's kinda where the hook ended up after I tied my variation on the improved clinch knot to the box end. Here's the video. His is shorter as are most jigging spoons. After re-watching his videos, mine is probably too large.

LOL, check you local regulations....  Metric may be outlawed, could be SAE only.  My waters would require at least a 1/2 if not a 3/4 to target the big ones....

I'll be sure to only use on private waters. :) It's longer than it appears (not what she said). It measures almost 5". That's a pretty big bait. I'm afraid it might be too big. But there are some big fish in my favorite spot.

Since real wrenches are expensive what about the kids plastic wrenches with bass lure paint jobs?

What do the bass recalling see in a wrench, or Buzzbait, or spinnerbait? Are deep sockets next? Lol

Nope it has to be the Gary Yamamoto Wrench, there is no other substitute.

You could try spraypainting it pink, almost a guaranteed 13 pounder!

I bet if you put some white fur or feathers on that hook you will catch more fish. I'm curious to see how if works.

The Orange colored bottom lures are hotter.

Is there something I don't know here?

Crankbaits with orange bottoms attract more strikes.

I only buy my wrenches through jdmtackle. Once you go jdm you never go back

When I looked quick at the thumbnail, I thought you somehow had it wacky-rigged!  Glad you don't... I don't believe the wrench will have the right wiggle on the drop for that.

Hope you torque a couple of big ones!

Tight lines,

Bob

Ben Parker watch out! ;)

Yeah it might catch a fish. But does it have any kind of action? I would think it would sink like a rock and not have any action. If you catch something on it great. But will this realistically replace your husky jerks and lucky crafts?

Go watch the video by Palm Beach Pete on YouTube. He uses a smaller on and I probably should too. I didn't realize how big this was until I measured it. But he catches some fish with it. People have been doing this a while for jigging reefs in saltwater. That one's already in the tackle box. I'll rig another smaller one.

If I use it at the right time, I'll probably catch some fish just because they've never seen it before.
