Getting 2 complete mold castings out of 10? Need Advice.

Featured Replies

I got my molds the other week and they have been driving me crazy.  At first i thought the molds were too cold so i heated them and it made no difference.  Then i tried smoking them with a tea light candle and it worked.  Now i am getting a few complete castings out every ten or so.  Even after i smoke one it doesn't seem to make a difference.  The heads are complete but the barb and collar are not casting.  Any tips will be nice. Thanks.

drop shot ,,  check the temp. of the lead i use  a hot temp, try pouring the hot lead into the mold a few times to heat the mold up, this always helps me i do it 5 or 6 times, then i'm all set to pour my jigs. hope that helps you out. ranger 361

I have had that problem and like ranger said the more I poured the better it got.  Also make sure you have a compatible hook.  I had some trouble with it more if I used certain hooks because they were a heavier shank size that wasn't supposed to be used in that mold.  It fit fine but apparently wasn't giving enough space for the lead to get through quickly before setting up.  I also preheat mine with a propane torch and then pour some without a hook in to get the mold hot.

+1. Sounds to me like your lead isn't quite hot enough.
