The Origami Boat

Featured Replies

The Porta-Bote has been around for a while like mentioned above. It also looks much easier to assemble, and there are less parts to carry.

I've never been in a boat like this, but there are some guys in my area that have a Porta-Bote with a 5hp outboard and trolling motor. The boat gets on plane and fishes 2 people. I've seen them with 3 before. Looked uncomfortable, but safe.

My main concern would be that those plastic screws with the knobs are line grabbers, and can snag branches that overhang the water.

If they are a standard thread, I'd swap them for Phillips, oval head stainless steel machine screws and grommets.  I would normally say countersunk oval head screws without the grommets, but plastic and countersunk don't normally work well together.

You'll need a Phillips head screwdriver for assembly.  An acceptable trade-off for a snag free hull.

I find it a pain just to inflate and set up my belly boat (and flippers and life jacket and gear, etc) for use so I'm pretty sure this contraption is not for me.  But if you are patient (I'm not) and have very limited space, this might be a good way to go.
